03-01-2008 - How are things in Kenya

Dear, Friend, Sponsors, and Supporters of The Kenya Project,

How are things in Kenya? This has become the question I have had to answer every time, every day and every where. Yes Kenya has been allover the news but not because of how well the country is developing, but how bad the situation was.

In the bible we know of Nehemiah who lived in a foreign country and had to wait for people to come from there and bring him reports of how things were. (Nehemiah1:1-11). Fortunately we did not have to wait for those coming since we are surrounded by different kind of media, which send the news as it happens. I do not know how long Nehemiah had to wait but I am impressed by his reaction when he heard how bad things were. Instead of changing the channel or trying to read more on line he prayed!

Like Nehemiah, we all know the plight of Kenya, we can not solve the problems of every one, but we are part of the solution. In Kenya and at Mountain Park there are needs today. Yes we do need to spend time praying, but as we pray let us purpose to do something about it. Since we all can not go we can give towards the projects that we are working on.

Feeding, Lower School construction, sponsorship of the children, medical clinic, construction of the children home and the daily running of the organization.

I believe that in God''s sovereignty, he placed you and I in the USA for such a time like this. So that as we enjoy the peace and comfort of our home and life we may take time to pray and give towards this work.

I have spent time praying just like Nehemiah prayed and even confessed the sin''s of his own people. In Nehemiah''s prayer he:

  1. Appeals to God on the basis of his promises -- in this case to restore his people to Jerusalem. (of Kenya)
  2. Appeals to God on the basis of God''s own Name and reputation.(a faithful, Never failing and able God).
  3. Appeals to God as a master on the basis of the needs of his servants.(God is in control of it all).
  4. He was patient in prayer and sensitive to the Lord''s leading.(God will answer prayer).
  5. Nehemiah prays both at length in private and in brief spurts as the crisis unfolds.(never stop to praying).
  6. Nehemiah acts on the basis of his prayer, willing to put himself in personal danger in order to see God''s will accomplished. (How much are we willing to stand up for the work of Kenya Project).

The suffering of his countrymen in Jerusalem is his suffering. Their shame is his shame. Their exposure to danger is bad news for him too. (That applies to us as we think and pray for Kenya).

I hope each one of us has prayed for Kenya and will continue to do so, but as you do so please do not forget that you can be part of the solution by providing the much needed support through your giving. God bless you.

Because of Him,

Gideon Robi
