01-01-2008 - Political Unrest

Dear, Friends, Sponsors, and Supporters of The Kenya Project,

As the people of Kenya experience a time of political unrest, we are thankful that Mountain Park Academy and the surrounding community are safe from the political storm. For many who have been displaced by rioting or fear, this area offers a place of solace. We anticipate an influx of refugees, some of whom have lost their loved ones.

Those who know the history of Mountain Park Academy are aware that it was born following the tribal wars of the early 1990''s, and many refugees came to the area. Mountain Park Academy was born out of a desire to help the children of those refugees. Kenya is experiencing political unrest similar to the unrest of the 1990s. We are expecting many refugees and their children to come to the Mountain Park area again with virtually nothing, possibly, only the clothes on their backs.

This past year, God blessed Mountain Park Academy with a new kitchen and dining hall. We are to use the facility to feed any refugees and their children. Thankfully, we have clean water from the well that many gave generously to help drill.

As you pray, please pray that peace will return to Kenya and for the continued safety of the children and their families at Mountain Park Academy. Please also pray for a spirit of unity among all that work at Mountain Park Academy and for the leadership of Mr. and Mrs. Robi. I also ask you to pray that the Kenya Project will be able to continue to provide for the needs of current students and their families and also be able to provide food, water and encouragement to refugees. Lastly, please pray for the Kenya Project Board to make wise decisions and garner needed resources to support all of these efforts.

If you would like to make a donation to provide food and clothing for these refugees, please send your check to The Kenya Project and designate the donation to the feeding program. Thank you for your continued prayers and support of those in need in Kenya.

Because of Him,

Gideon Robi
